An Open Letter - Help your singles group grow:

Naomi........Naomi

I am Gene and would like to talk to you about singles.

First, what do i want? ..........Answer: I want your singles thing to be where Christian singles want to go...not the bars, or the dances, but your place.  Do you want that to happen.........or do you want me to dry up and go away? J

So here goes....I will only say a few things:

I ran singles in the Overlake Church 10 years ago.  I went to the leader and said, "do you want this to grow?"  He had 60 attending, you had 24 last week.  He said "YES, what should we do?"  I said in nicer words....."SHUTUP!"  We have Godly speakers, people like Barbara, people like that guy that was there 2 yrs ago on forgiveness, some tapes, like you remember that guy Jimmy Evans.  What kills singles groups is THE LEADER WANTS TO SPEAK ALL THE TIME!

Naomi, for 27, you did a good job.  I asked one girl last week how she felt about the group.  She said she felt refreshed, but didn't want to really listen to someone that does not know divorce. But they will always find something they do not like.....that is singles.

So girl, here can be your secret to growth.....have the best speakers you can find....or it will die.

When you speak, have half of it be discussion, and encourage singles, to contribute, but take turns.

I asked Dr. Gary Wallard, now at Napa Nazarene why he did not have a singles group. He said that he only had women to run it, and men will not come when woman run it....then the women drop out.

At U. Pres i saw a woman that was as pretty as Cindy Crawford grow a group from 2 people to 135 in 6 mo.....we all came to marry her...she left and it died.  Westminster had two women run their group and it grew to over 100.  They took the input of men, got speakers, and kept it an hour in length.  They met every week, had food, and all wanted to come.

You, Naomi, can lead this to be a wonderful place...but you have to big a humble person.
